HARDSUIT™ Military Applications
Military Atmospheric Diving System
Hardsuit Deep Sea Diving Suit

The OceanWorks International HARDSUIT™ line of Atmospheric Diving Systems (ADS) and related deployment and tooling systems has become the modern standard in international military deep sea diving operations including:

  • USA
  • Japan MSDF
  • France
  • Russia
  • Turkey
  • Italy

Military deep sea diving suit applications include:

  • search & salvage
  • aircraft & weapons recovery
  • submarine ventilation & decompression
  • ELSS Pod posting
  • submarine escape hatch clearing for SRC, RORV, and SRV operation

Our ADS technology has consistently evolved since its initial release in 1986, and today the HARDSUIT™ Quantum and HARDSUIT™ 2000 deep sea diving suits represent the state of the art in atmospheric diving systems.

Advantages of the ADS over traditional diving include:

  • smaller crew sizes
  • reduced training requirements
  • perception at depths up to 2,000 feet
  • no decompression
  • unlimited vertical excursions
  • system portability
  • lower capital equipment costs
  • increased safety, since the ADS pilot is not subject to the rigors of saturation diving the auxiliary surface support requirements are greatly reduced

The superior transportability and rapid response time of atmospheric diving has led the U.S. Navy to choose the "HARDSUIT™ 2000" as the rapid Assessment Underwater Work System (AUWS) for their next generation submarine rescue system, the SRDRS.

OceanWorks has recently completed a major design update for the atmospheric diving suit electronics and thrusters. The thruster upgrade results in:

  • quieter operation with less maintenance
  • 80% greater thrust
  • lift greater loads
  • operate in greater current than ever before

The electronics upgrade was incorporated to provide:

  • increased utility
  • diagnostic capability
  • equipment expandability
  • reduced size of the surface modules supporting operation of the suit

The small surface vessel footprint required to operate the HARDSUIT™ system means that greater freedom is available in selecting the Vessel of Opportunity (VOO) on which the HARDSUIT™ system is installed. The HARDSUIT™ systems are typically provided in flyaway configurations for easy transport and installation on any VOO.

Launch and recovery systems (LARS) can be supplied by OceanWorks International for all product lines including the HARDSUIT™ systems.

These advantages are coupled with 20 years of service in some of the most inhospitable and dangerous conditions without a major incident.
